Iznik is a modest town that draws attention with its handicrafts and olive cultivation from its magnificent history. Our school is in front of the Istanbul gate of the historical walls surrounding this city, the excursion areas by the Iznik Lake and the boathouse. The location of the school is unique in this respect. Our school building, which takes nature and history as a reference, was built on only two floors in order to be harmonious and accessible, and the silhouette of the city was preserved without passing in front of the historical walls. The materials used on the façade were chosen as brick and stone and matched to the alternating walls of the city walls. Sustainability and environmentalist approach in transportation is encouraged with the bicycle park created at the entrance of the school. The fact that the city is small and its flat land structure is very suitable for this.
The school has no garden walls. An interior garden with a strong spatial effect has been created so that this will not be necessary. There are sports games in the inner garden. Due to its structure, it has created a sheltered area for pets. Thus, it also provides privacy for the open-air classroom. The dining hall and the teachers' room take care of all this. Thanks to the low-rise structure of the building, wide viewing terraces were formed. Each class has its own agricultural gardens on these terraces. By getting rid of the corridors in the interior, a large, bright and scenic common area belonging to each profession has been created.
It should give a good option to unavoidable concreting. Students should feel themselves breathing at school. There should be grassed areas where they can play ball and have a picnic. They should grow fruits, vegetables and flowers. Rabbits, birds, etc. must be pets that the whole school takes care of. We should be able to prevent alienation from ourselves and nature.
