The Yale Law Journal

The existing cover design was quite spartan; we added a strong blue band around the publication's exterior and elevated the Arms of Yale Law School.
We added page numbers to the cover, creating a true table of contents and eliminating a previous redundancy.

The revised masthead, with more visible section heads. Throughout the publication we increased the use of TheSans where appropriate to complement Matthew Carter's elegant and proprietary Yale typeface.
One key design decision was the institution of strong, standard article titles. By bringing the article abstract, author bio, and article contents into title spreads, we ensured that even individual reprints will have a well-presented opening.
Aside from making absolutely clear where the article came from for reprint purposes, the repetition of the cover band element was equally functional, aiding in the reader's navigation of the bound issue.
