For this project, I had to create an animation for a character select screen. Now I am a big fan of Video-game titles such as Enter the Gungeon, Nuclear throne, and Brawlhalla which all have their own unique character selects. I took inspiration from all of these moving forward. But before I get into the design of the Layout, I need to make characters. For this title, I wanted to theme it around mutant bounty hunters from space. I imaged this to be some kind of rogue-like game with the characters having their own different abilities.
Out of all of these designs, I was feeling the smug mosquito, and the anonymous astronaut most so they became my main two.
This was what I came up with for the select screen. In this original drawing, I depicted them at the bottom all taking a mug shot and while it could have shown the characters even more personality, I didn't go with it in the end because it was too small for details like that. I also grouped the characters names and abilities on the right.
These are some extra drawings of my characters that I did for clarity sake since my concepts were all only from neck up, and since my animation was more from waist up, I needed to visualize the rest of the body
This is the final product that I'm very happy with. I came out the way that I envisioned it and more. Super pleased
