Community farming was primarily used in rural areas to rejuvenate communities; however, it was not planned for use in urban areas, where consumption and demand are substantially higher than in rural areas due to recent urbanization growth. Social farming should be an integral part of an urban community to offer accessible access to organic, healthful food and save transportation costs and time required to reach urban people. This form of contemporary farming can be a highly effective multifunctional program that rehabilitates individuals and fosters a sense of community and connection.

Multifunctionality is crucial in an urban environment and social farming can repurpose abandoned land while boosting morale and stimulating economic growth in peri-urban, monofunctional environments. This could be accomplished through the aspect of multifunctionality, which connects multiple sectors such as health, agriculture, and manufacturing, thereby creating new jobs and rejuvenating communities through the provision of new identities.
