At the Ballet
For this assignment I was given the wide area of contemporary ballet to draw inspiration from. I did some digging on the Victoria & Albert museum's digital archives and found costumes that renowned expressionist Henri Matisse designed. I fell in love with his color blocking and bold colors. The first design that stands on its own slide is my interpretation of his costume work and where I drew inspiration from for the rest of the collection. It is mostly rooted in my favorite costume he made, which I included an image of. Prior to receiving this assignment I worked on the musical "A Chorus Line" in which there is a song titled "At the Ballet." The character is reminiscing on how "everything was beautiful at the ballet" which I was thinking about when designing this collection.
