Coloratura Opera Lab

Lviv National Opera Theatre
According to the inscription in the theatre lobby, the building was constructed between 1897 and 1900, and has remained standing throughout several changes in history. Originally built when Lviv was the capital of the autonomous province of Galicia in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In 1895, the city announced an architectural design competition, which attracted a large number of submissions. Among the participants were the renowned Viennese architects Fellner & Helmer, whose entry was rejected as too international and eclectic.
An independent jury chose the design by Zygmunt Gorgolewski,a graduate of the Berlin Building Academy and the director of city's Engineering Academy. Gorgolewski pleasantly surprised the jury by planning to locate the building in the center of the city, despite the area having been already densely built-up. In order to solve the space problem, he boldly proposed to enclose the Poltva River underground, and instead of using a traditional foundation, utilised a reinforced concrete base for the first time in Europe.

Lviv National Opera Ceiling
In ancient tradition we know nine Muses, Calliope - Muse of Epic Poetry, Euterpe - Lyrics, Melpomene - Tragedy, Talia - comedy, Erato - Romantic Poetry, Polyhymnia - Pantomime and Hymns, Terpsichore - Dance, Clio - History and Urania - Astronomy.  But Stanislav Reichan, who was designing main auditorium in Lviv Opera have chosen  ten allegorical figures for his luster design - Grace, Music, Dance, Criticism, Drama, Inspiration, Bacchanal, Innocence, Illusion and Truth.

Coloratura
Coloratura is an elaborate melody with runs, trills, wide leaps, or similar virtuoso-like material, or a passage of such music. Operatic roles in which such music plays a prominent part, and singers of these roles, are also called coloratura.  The term coloratura is most commonly applied to the elaborate and florid figuration or ornamentation in classical (late 18th century) and romantic (19th century, specifically bel canto) vocal music.

Coloratura Opera Lab
Coloratura Opera Lab is the place, where classical techniques meet contemporary approach. Project is made by young opera star Natalia Stepaniak, and her team of musicologists, managers, marketing specialist. Project has two directions - education of young professionals and popularisation of opera. Approach is the highest form of inclusion, where the elite art is more integrated in society everyday life.

Sculptures and Figures
As there are a lot of sculptures in the Opera building, we implemented many sculptures and figures from the ceiling, which we mentioned before, into our SMM communication strategy. It works nice, as in SMM communication Coloratura Opera Lab needed to be more friendly to regular people which were not familiar with the opera, we tuned our Tone Of Voice on semi-funny communication, using famous sculptures as mascots.

Marta Syrko Photography
We used photos of lviv photographer Marta Syrko for two of our main operas promo campaign. It was fortunately for us that two topics are meeting each other on some point. The main ideas of The Little Mermaid and Cosi Fan Tutte plots were meeting the visual representations of Syrko creative photo sessions. We, as the Studio, and me personally, we love those coincidences, as they reveal true and unique exclusiveness Unfortunately, Operas and the campaign, as the festival itself was interrupted by Covid, and stayed as the concept.
