The Good Bloc | Visual Brand Identity & Packaging

Client Name: Vanessa Bloc
Company Name: The Good Bloc
Product: Soap blocks intended to replace everyday items such as laundry soap, shampoo, and dish soap

This brand project was for a fictional brand brief created by the wonderful Taylor Amy. Because Vanessa Bloc isn’t a real person, I made up some characteristics to help guide the brand prompt.

Vanessa’s comments:

She notices that many brands both in the social impact industries and others have a very minima and neutral-toned aesthetic. She wants to differentiate herself from those brands.
She rarely sees brands that call themselves low/zero-waste have bright colors or quirky elements in their branding. She wants to incorporate some of that.
She truly thinks that zero waste/low waste solutions can be for everybody.

What I came up with based on her comments:
For her display font, I chose Apfel Brukt, a display font whose cut-outs not only give the font a quirky feel but also uses less ink when printed.

For her color palette, I chose bold colors such as electric violet and scarlet and more toned down colors such as the cream and dark blue colors. When put together, the colors stand out and complement each other.
To add another quirky element, I incorporated the bar code into a fun illustration on the back of the packaging.

Overall the visual brand identity shows customers and viewers that these soap blocks are not only helpful, but they are enjoyable to use.
