Alphabet Mafia
What's This?
So started playing Jetpack Joyride a few weeks ago and I was invested. I got about 100 levels in the first week. I loved it so much that I decided to make something to memorialize them.

Alphabet Mafia is just a burned piece of wood. Hence the term woodburning. Nothing special. One could hang it up on a wall or prop it up somewhere. Simple décor. This was the largest burn that I would be doing to date, so there ended up being more prep than actual time spent burning it.
Hello Worlding:
We start off by just figuring out which characters I wanted to do this for. It didn't take me long to decide it would be Mr. Cuddles and the Profit Bird, two of the games most iconic vehicle powerups. So I sketch them out, and try to figure out what they would look like from multiple angles as they are only shown in 2D in-game.
So for Mr. Cuddles, it became really difficult to figure out various points of view. So as any Creative Tech student who wants to suffer, I turned to Fusion 360. I made 2 separate body models that move in the horizontal and vertical directions because the ball joint in Fusion is bugged and it doesn't seem to have a fix. That was a very late night.
So that did help... eventually... once I figured out how I wanted him to be positioned and whatnot. We finally got the sketch finished after many days of iterating and erasing. I made a simple bubble font afterwards, chose what I wanted to say and then made an imprint onto the wooden board. Finally ready after about 2 weeks of preparing. Here we go!
The Actual Hackathon
This was fairly straightforward. Grab my pen, choose what tip I wanted, and go to town for 4 hours. Take breaks if my hand locked or went numb (because cataplexy).
If I finished early I could color it but that wasn't a necessity. Fighting the grain in wood is really annoying, even when you're going with it vs against it, it is very resistant to a burning metal rod. Although I was using a very old burning pen so that could be my cause for slight struggle. Either way I am glad that I got this done without much incident. It was a nice change of pace.
