The Old Saint Nicholas Coal breaker located in Gilberton, PA, just outside of Mahanoy City. Construction began in 1931 and finally opened on September 16, 1932. The breaker was one of the two largest in the world. It ceased operating in 1963 when the Reading Anthracite Company moved their mining operations near Millersville, PA, which subsequently closed in 2003.
