The soldiers (about 400 men) of Lieutenant-Colonel HOGAN have been surrounded for 3 days in the small Ardennes village of Marcouray by a whole German division (about 10,000 Germans). Despite this worrying situation, they were able to carry out their mission and join the American lines. After a night march of 16 km, they broke through enemy lines.
