Mark Rober Post is a self-designed publication that I created in class, Typographic Voice & Visual Narrative; it narrates Mark Rober’s career path and his attitude in life and science. Mark Rober, who quit his job in NASA to become a full-time Youtuber, is an engineer, inventor, and father of a child on the autism spectrum. He creates so many interesting and beautiful experiences by using his professional knowledge of science and engineering. Not only the world’s largest elephant toothpaste volcano and jelly pool that he created bring happiness to children, but also the glitter bomb he made for punishing package thieves creates an outlet for people who have been through that situation before. Under his creativity, sciences and theories are not boring at all.
From his experiments, I gained so many inspirations on how to present this newspaper in a more interesting and appealing way. I treated the newspaper as my “laboratory“ and made fun visual experiments on typography and layouts. To show Rober's personality in this publication, I explored different materials and textures such as created chemical reactions learned from his experiments onto typography. It helped me to develop a unique voice and visual experience, bring a lot of imagination to this work, and achieve the goal for the class.
