UNESCO Transcultura Programme

Transcultura: Integrating Cuba, the
Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity

Transcultura Programme: Integrating Cuba, the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity is a cooperation initiative implemented by UNESCO and funded by the European Union, which builds bridges of exchange between people from different cultural horizons through the universal languages of art and creativity. Transcultura harnesses the rich cultural diversity of the Caribbean so it can become a driver of sustainable development, through exchange in the region and with Europe.

Transcultura offers young people opportunities to develop their careers in the cultural and creative sectors through four lines of action:

- Capacity-Building
- Scholaships and Incubator Programmes
- Twinnings and Cultural Exchanges
- Cultural Sustainable Tourism
About the logo
A combination of two rhombuses formed from line figures were designed to denote integration, transformation and movement. Cuba is represented on one side; the Caribbean, on the other side, while the European Union lies in the centre, represented by the colour blue. Each rhombus is formed by four mosaics representing four lines of action of the programme.
About the visual identity
The choice of intersecting lines for the Transcultura programme's visual identity mirrors the transformation the Programme brings to the Caribbean and its diverse cultures. Diagonal lines in the design symbolize positive movement, growth, dynamism, joy, strength, and progress.

The visual identity aims to convey the concept of Transcultura, which involves creating a new shared culture from the synthesis and interaction of diverse peoples, cultures, and ideas. This mirrors the Transcultura Programme, a product of various complementary components resulting from the synergies among the region's diverse identities, knowledge, and capabilities. The programme is defined not by individual components but by their integration and the dedication of its practitioners and participants.

The combination of the mosaics allow an endless number of combinations, which makes the graphic flexible and suitable to be adapted to a wide variety of formats and applications.
