A Century in Ashes / Un Siglo en Cenizas
Eng. - From afar you could see a big black cloud that devoured almost the entire block, the water from the hoses that fell on the roofs and the occasional flash from the fire. Upon arrival, firefighters, soldiers and historians had managed to rescue some artworks before they were consumed by fire. Still hot and with the smoke in the air, standing on a wooden beam I saw the fragility of time, when 141 years of history and culture turned to ashes in one morning.
Esp. - De lejos se observaba una gran nube negra que devoraba casi toda la cuadra, el agua de las mangueras que caía sobre los techos y uno que otro destello por el fuego. Al llegar, los bomberos, militares e historiadores habían logrado rescatar algunas obras antes de que fueran consumidas por el fuego. Aún caliente y con el humo en el aire, parada sobre una viga de madera vi la fragilidad del tiempo, cuando 141 años de historia y cultura se hacen cenizas en una madrugada.
Eng. - The house of Ramón Rosa (Honduran hero) was built in 1876 and in 1989 it became the Foundation for the Museum of Honduran Man. With the purpose of promoting, protecting and conserving the cultural heritage of Honduras, it housed the only library specialized in art at the national level, a large number of reconstructed works from the colonial era and the piano of Carlos Hartling, in the one that is considered that the first notes of our National Anthem were intoned.
Esp. - Aquel lugar era conocido como la casa de Ramón Rosa (prócer hondureño) fue construida en 1876 y en 1989 pasó a ser la Fundación para el Museo del Hombre Hondureño. Con el objetivo de promover, proteger y conservar el patrimonio cultural de Honduras, albergaba la única biblioteca especializada en arte a nivel nacional, una gran cantidad de obras reconstruidas de la época colonial y no por último menos importante, el piano de Carlos Hartling, en el que se considera que fueron entonadas las primeras notas de nuestro Himno Nacional.
Eng. - The Museum of Honduran Man was destroyed by a raging fire in the early morning of November 30, 2017, caused by a short circuit in a nearby printing press. Thus leaving a great mourning for the loss of all its historical, artistic and cultural wealth, waiting to be rebuilt at some point.
Esp. - El Museo del Hombre Hondureño fue destruido por un voraz incendio la madrugada del 30 de noviembre de 2017, provocado por un corto circuito en una imprenta cercana. Dejando así un gran luto por la pérdida de toda su riqueza histórica, artística y cultural, esperando ser reconstruida en algún momento.
