Hansel and Gretel
Hansel and Gretel is a reconceptualised illustration of the classic Brothers Grimm's fairytale. This illustration visualises the characters and plot of Hansel and Gretel through the perspective of the world of cats and dogs. In this version, I have utilised the traditionally thought of relationship between cats and dogs as enemies to portray these characters.

The narrative follows the original fairytale but is tweaked towards this new perspective to make sense in a cats vs. dogs world. The Witch is on a mission to lure innocent, young pups Hansel and Gretel in through a range of delicious meaty (and poisoned) treats.
Developing the World
For this project, I did developmental phases for two parts: the world and the characters. Developing the world consisted of researching different compositions and perspectives that could inspire the final illustration, as well as developing environmental assets to be used throughout to bring the world together.
Finding My Hansel, Gretel and Witch
When developing the characters for this illustration, I looked at different breeds for both cat and dog to see what breed fit the type of personality that I was looking for to match each character. I also experimented with different styles and shapes for the faces of the characters until I finally came to the final characters that I ended up with for the illustration. The process then included colour testing for the characters and then proceeding to delve deeper into the characters by looking at their interactions between each other and different facial expressions and moods that may occur throughout the plot of the story.
