Saba - a book character illustration

Saba  is a brilliantly created character from Within These Wicked Walls, a YA novel by Laurie Blackwood.

*Spoilers ahead*

Although the other characters quickly wandered off my mind, Saba stayed and here's why briefly.
She was the first victim of the evil eye but was brought back from the grave (literally) by her husband who was unknown of the consequences.
Now she walks the halls of the castle as a servant to the evil eye, unseen to the eye of the castle staff and the commoners, the protagonist however, can not only see her but also converse with her. She’s made of pottery so she is shattered to pieces by the protagonist a couple of times but she puts herself back again in almost no time.
And don’t get me wrong, she’s a sweet heart, even though she doesn’t possess a heart of flesh and blood, her trapped soul feels for the protagonist and tries to save her numerous times from the evil eye, even while under the evil eye’s spell. In the end as the evil eye is defeated and she is released from the curse she turns into a peaceful statue next to the man she loved.
