Good For Nothing Collection
Good For Nothing Collection have incorporated the aesthetic of the Yakuza Culture, following the overall aesthetic of Japanese design which is minimalism with a twist of modernism. I decided upon a large format for the piece, to allow for sufficient white space to exist and balance the use of text and images, giving the essence of simplicity and tradition in each space, as for the colors are bright and stunning to give essence of modernism and a sense of styling.

The illustrations of tote bag and packaging are inspired by elements of the yakuza tattoos, oni mask. Oni are demons that dole out gruesome punishment to the wicked. Thus, the oni mask tattoo represents the enforcement of behavior codes or the doling out of punishment. Generally, someone who wears an Oni mask on their body has the same intent as someone who wears one on their face: they want to tell evil not to mess with them.
The paper that I have used is Paper Takeo AchroPrint 130gsm with smooth texture. For the packaging I used Royal Sundance Linen 230gsm
To ensure user interactiveness, a flap was created to enhance the experince of the reader and to cover certain areas to trigger curiosity and a sense of mystery.

The flaps are designed in a from of teaching new Japanese words relating to the yakuza world to readers. For example, “joseki” means simply having your name removed from the yakuza world, which is know one of a way to leave the underworld.
