The ‘Fourth Wall’ series is an exploration of urban alienation experienced by women in Lahore. Urban development in Lahore is marked by a contradiction regarding how women are perceived: they must look beautiful and be advertised everywhere, yet they must also be confined to the privacy of their homes. The city’s consumerist culture dictates that a performance must be put up to showcase a glamorous and developed city. This uncanny performance comprises of emptiness camoflauged by extravagance. Hence, in this series, I explore the isolation that women feel as a result of the facade of these performances.
