Lion and Eagle Transmission Tower

Lion and Eagle Transmission Tower
I was honored to be working on a big project as a member of Nexus Studio creating a stylized transmission tower to be built later on in city centre of Belgorod.

The goal was to design a unique looking transmission tower that would be an homage to city's well known coat of arms - Lion and Eagle, that later would be constructed in the city centre so it could be officially taken into use on August 5th – the city’s annual day of celebration, therefore the development time was short.

The project was implemented within the framework of an agreement with the government of the Belgorod region on cooperation in the development of the region's power grid complex.

The project got into World Book of records and later was awarded Tekla Global BIM Awards 2020 in categorty "Best Small Project".

I was in charge of design, modeling, texturing this installation as well as taken part in developing a presentation video.

Right after quick sketching and brainstorming with the client, after inicial design had been determined, and several tweaks were performed for the eagle part, to make main shapes be light-looking and readable enough.
The whole modeling process was performed in blender using curves and modifiers.
Mesh grid and material setup. Texturing and rendering was done using Cycles engine.
Later on, the final model was used for creating presentation video, using live drone footage of location. The original landscape was tracked and replaced with newer one based on reconstruction plans. Same goes with the transmission tower.
After tracking the footage, adding new elements was done, it was time for adding infographics and compositing.
As the result of all efforts of team involved, this demonstration video was produced quickly.
Confirmation that the heraldic support was included in the World Book of Records was the certificate that Vlad Kopylov, General Director of the INTER RECORD International Record Registration Agency, came to present to the Belgorod power engineers.
5869 parts were produced for the support, assembled and welded in 1619 sending elements, and connected to the installation of 5805 bolts. The support was installed on a pile foundation of 28 six-meter reinforced concrete piles united by a grillage. The foundation required 91 cubic meters of concrete.
This project set a new record as the first in Russia and the world to support power lines in the form of the heraldic symbol of the city.
