"THE _______________ IN THE _______________."
Found letterpress plates used outside of originally intended commercial intent to force viewer to fill in the blanks to create their own narrative. Hand-brayered color application, each piece an original.
"FAIR"
Using overlapping color to create shapes, viewer will start to see defineable images the more the piece is viewed. The words "FAIR" are over-printed in silver and there is a quarter circle where image of horse, cow, and barn sillouettes can be seen. The random and spontaneous identification create a narrative that is different for the viewer depending on the order of shape recognition.
"TIME, DATE, PLACE."
A deliberate use of off-set printing to create a layer of texture, line and color to both unify and separate the image as a whole. Viewer sees enough of a familiar image to create their own narrative. The negative knock-out shapes give clues to the viewer of what they are looking at (ie: the bird in the upper left). All three of this series is intended to have a delayed understanding, the viewer is expected to look at these several times before they recognize the images and shapes.
