Album Redesign Concept: Continuum by John Mayer
Themes of the album include the inability to find control, heartbreak, and the tensions of relationships and life in general. I took inspiration from the song "Stop This Train" in selecting the subject of the cover. A photograph of a train moving faster than the eye can make out the details of it is a metaphor for being in the present while life moves forward. This reflects the album as a whole because the songs talk about moments stopped in time ("Slow Dancing in a Burning Room") and resisting the way things are ("Gravity", "I Don't Trust Myself").
I personally felt the original album artwork did not do this album justice. There's nothing wrong with simplicity, but it was so simple that the effect they were going for with the infinity symbol hidden in the album title got lost amid the dull, gray background. So, I decided to keep the typography for the title and reinforce it with more vibrant colors and a thematic image.
