Illustrations / design for NVE - The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate. KRAFTLANDET Released 2021

Illustrations to accompany the story "Control" - about the transition Norway made to hydro-power in the early 20th century, and the struggle for the ownership of the infrastructure and emergent industry. The story is part of Kraftlandet - a large storytelling project to celebrate NVE's centenary. I worked on this project firstly as a designer helping to make the concept and identity when I worked at Creuna (now Knowit Experience) in the early part of 2019, now I continue to work on the project creating illustrations as an independent designer.

Illustration above - Johan Castberg, a prominent politician in the early 20th century works through the documents and legal paperwork to ensure Norway has ownership of the emergent hydropower industry rather than foreign interests, and therefore creates energy security for Norways future. Known as Concession Law.

Illustration below - A changed landscape, the waterfall before and after. The water is encased in pipes and its natural power forced down into the station below to drive the turbines. Over 90% of Norways energy is from renewable hydropower.

This work was make in Procreate and Photoshop and was inspired by the work of Theodor Kittlesen.
