These serving platters were designed in Lindsay Pichaske's course on clay and hand building during the Summer of 2013. The assignment that inspired these dishes was titled "Place Setting as Environment." These plates are designed to be stackable and sculpturally appealing, resembling a series of waves when stacked or viewed horizontally. These plates and bowls were fired to Cone 10 in the Corcoran's new BLAAUW kiln.
Waveset
These forms were slab mold formed to illustrate the repetition of waves. Designed to be viewed horizontally; this slab/mold formed stoneware was fired to Cone 10. (Dimensions 11” X 9” X 3”)
The Stall
This form memorializes the depth and repetition of two wave (viewed horizontally). It was named to celebrate the surfing maneuver performed when a surfer slows down either by shifting weight to the tail of the board or by putting a hand in the water in order to stay in the tube. It is slab mold formed and fired to Cone 10.
Smack the Lip & Hit the Lip
These forms were slab mold formed to illustrate the repetition of waves. These two plates are designed to rest one-upon-the-other and are named to celebrate the surfing maneuver performed when a surfer makes a bottom turn, moves upwards to hit the peak of the wave. Stoneware fired to Cone 10. (Dimensions 7.5” X 6.5” X 1.25” & 7.75” X 7” X 1.5”)
