NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC STATION IDENTS
Greetings once again everyone! For this assignment, we are asked to create five 10 second station idents for a particular channel, In this case I chose National Geographic as my choice of channel because I have a soft spot for animals in particular.
Concept
In creating these idents, I was inspired by children books that shows about animals when I was growing up. So I make it a point in showcasing them when applying them to the Station Idents. Another reason why I would do this is because there was no animated station idents as far as I am aware of and since the channel itself is a joint venture with The Walt Disney Company, which are famous for its animation studios, It would be appropriate to use this style.
Analysis of the Station Idents
The story flow for each ident is straight forward, however I will explain each of the story as much as I can.
Station Ident #1 The Lion
The scene begins with a gazelle wandering on Africa but unfortunately encounters a hungry lion. The scene then pans to the gazelle running away while the lion gives chase.
Station Ident #2 The Rhino
The scene begins with a lion looking for food in Africa but unfortunately encounters a very angry rhino. The scene then pans to the lion running away while the rhino gives chase.
Station Ident #3 The Hippo
The scene shows two hippos relaxing on the lake then the logo would appear.
Station Ident #4 The Cougar
The scene shows a cougar sleeping on a tree the at night then the logo would appear.
Station Ident #5 The Owl
The scene begins with the moon at center. Then the camera pans out to an owl sitting on a tree branch at night while looking at a shooting star. The owl then looks at the viewer breaking the fourth wall and the stations logo appeared.
Behind The Scenes
First, I took a reference photo from the Internet and open up Illustrator. And just like what I did in my Sherlock Holmes Title Sequence post, I then began to trace the images in different layers for example the main body in one layer and the other in different layers. This makes it easier for me to manipulate and tweak these layers in Adobe After Effect.
After completing all the Illustrations, I imported them to Adobe After Effects to begin the motions of the idents. I also imported the music as a guide to where and when should I place these tunes. After compiling the idents into one video, I then rendered the finished product using Adobe Media Encoder.
