Masks of Common Use
One of the characteristics of my work is the creation of imaginary universes based on real life. In this project, each universe lives inside a mask, they have faces, identities and are inspired by social behaviors within the world we live in. Due to safety measures, masks have acquired new meanings in recent years. The idea of communication and cultural representation went to the background and the immediate thought about the element is directed to separation and protection.
Within this context came my need to talk about what is common and what can unite us. The title of the project contrasts with the 'individual' or 'single-use' masks that have already become an essential element of everyday life in many countries.
The hardness and weight of the ceramics clearly indicate that none of these masks were made to use as a personal accessory. But even though they are ornamental pieces, there is a search for interaction with the viewer, an intention to discuss the proposed concepts. They are masks to occupy spaces and to be used internally, in the form of thoughts.
All the chosen themes share a demand for frequent, almost daily renewal of their values.
