Stickers! They're fun, they're personal and everyone is using them now-a-days. You can stick them anywhere you want to, too! I was asked to create a series of stickers and the inspiration was MOTHS. Why, you ask? They're fuzzy and gross looking! WRONG. 

There are actually 9 times as many moths as butterflies! They come in all shapes, sizes and colors, just like us! Bottom line? They're fun, fascinating and we should love them. 

As usual, I started with sketches. I had a blast creating patterns and body shapes. I wanted each moth to be different and unique. I used polka dots and lines to add texture. I looked at hundreds of photo references and then simplified what I saw. 

After I'd created my pages of sketches, I chose my favorite moths and started digitally sketching. These came together very quickly, but I realized a couple things. 

1. I wanted to unite these designs somehow. I chose a fun polkadot pattern that I incorporated into each moth. 

2. The antenna "look" made the colorful moth look more like a butterfly. Moths have very specific looking antenna and I needed the moths to communicate quickly. 

3. Keep things as simple as possible. I added in a lot of extra details that didn't NEED to be there. 

After a few tweaks, ta da! Here are our little moth friends! They're bold, they're bright and they are beautiful! I chose warm and inviting colors that tend to make people feel happy. 

Through vibrant color, pattern and variation, I created a whimsical sticker set that anyone would like. I hope they speak to people. You can purchase your own moth sticker HERE.
