Refined images project for Graphic Survey, focusing on object translation into refined images using traditional media.
Object Translation project for Graphic Survey, the purpose of which was to explore a given object's form and functions with different prompts and color schemes. The prompts shown in order were Layers, Asymmetry, Texture, Symmetry, Economy, and Own Study.
Pattern project for Graphic Survey, taking the object from the previous project and creating patterns with the prompts of grid design, rhythm, and hierarchy.
Action verb project for Graphic Survey, taking an action verb (in this case, "strike") and interpreting it in different ways with different compositions.
Iconography project for Graphic Systems, starting with refined images (shown in the top left) and creating three variations focusing on different action verbs (sleep, cuddle, and eat). One style focuses more on figure-ground reversal, while the other places emphasis on artistic stroke tapering.
Visual system project for Graphic Systems, focusing on creating a visual study on a concept and then creating five more studies (three static, two animated) with explicit constraints on building the other compositions.
The concept in question is nihilism, the belief that life is meaningless, and more specifically sunny nihilism, the belief that worrying is unnecessary if everything is ultimately meaningless.
The constraints for the five other visual studies are as follows:
Colorful color palette, combine organic shapes and polygons, create a point of visual interest, constrain all elements except one to the grid, and imply themes of fading or destruction
Metasystem experimentation, created by starting with a grid, creating a greyscale composition using the grid and the Illustrator blend tool, then scaling each composition down into a tile and creating another piece by rotating and reflecting.
