What is water puppetry?

Water puppetry is a genre of Vietnamese theater. Born from the rice agricultural culture of the farmers in the Red River Delta, it is deeply cultural in East and Southeast Asia. The development of Water Puppet Show is a continuous, never-interrupted. It is a theatrical genre that operates in the folk form with full characteristics of folk culture in seasons, festivals, and cult in the countryside.
Characteristics

The puppet is made of fig wood, a light wood floating on the water surface, carved with its own carved lines, then honed, polished and decorated with a variety of paint colors to embellish each character. The figure of the puppet is usually fresh, funny, and highly symbolic.
The puppet body is the surface of the water that represents the character, while the base is the submerged part of the water surface to keep the puppets afloat and is the place to install the controller for the puppets to move.

.... at that moment, I got the chance to attend an event organized by Tired City. The event is created to bring cultural values that are being increasingly exposed to people, especially young people.
Realizing that the 16 traditional water puppet shows have many similarities with traditional festivals up to now, this calendar is like an cartoon version of Vietnamese Water puppetry.
DANCE OF THE FAIRY

Dance of the Fairy: The dance is related to the Dragon-Fairy theory (Lac Long Quan and Au Co), considered the ancestor of the Vietnamese people.
The dance reflects the will to live, a peaceful life.
Every year, every April (lunar calendar), a large number of domestic and foreign tourists come to An Giang for pilgrimage to attend the Ba Chua Xu Festival of Sam Mountain (Chau Doc City, An Giang).

A long-standing special festival bearing cultural values, spiritual and religious beliefs of the Southern people.
Drangon - Lion - Turtle - Phoenix

Taking place on the 8th of January every year,
It is one of the two major festivals of the year, just after the Grand Festival of the Dieu Dao

Four Spirit Dance (Dragon - Lion - Turtle - Phoenix):
Also held by Cao Dai Church of Tay Ninh Province on the full moon day of August.

VINH QUY BAI TO

“Vinh quy bai to” has the meaning of “drink water, remember its source”, to return home to pay thanks to ancestors after achieving academic honours
Held annually on the 22nd of the 8th lunar month
in Lam Kinh area of Tho Xuan district, Thanh Hoa.

Here, the day before, as a rule, every three years,
On the death anniversary of the king, the kings of the Le dynasty in Dong Kinh (Thang Long) returned to Lam Kinh to celebrate the ceremony.

The art of water puppetry has different characteristics from ordinary puppetry: using the water surface as a stage (called a puppet house or a water house), behind a backdrop (called a medical panel) to create an expressive stage. Water puppet show is like the great altar at Dinh, Vietnamese pagoda, around the decoration of flags, fans, elephants, parasols, horse gate ...
On the “stage” are puppets (made of wood) performed by the control of the people behind the font through a system of poles, strings ... Water puppet performances are indispensable for drums and firecrackers auxiliary
