reRoot NYC will connect the members of New York City neighborhoods to each other and place. This city-wide initiative will engage neighborhoods through applying biophilic design principles to address community concerns.

reRoot NYC was a group project by Ciera Iveson, Briyana Rainer and Kayla Van Name, focusing on the Marble Hill community in the Bronx.  My primary contributions were to supporting the concept development, creating iconography and the color palette, and designing all elements of rePlay.

reRoot extends the principles of a 2010 study called The State of Tranquility: Subjective Perception is Shaped By Contextual Modulation of Auditory Connectivity which found that traffic noise could be perceived as more pleasurable when matched with visuals of ocean waves.

To raise awareness about urban noise pollution and possible solutions, rePlay features two public art installations matching a neighborhood noise with a nature visual.
Can a subway sound like a waterfall?
Can an expressway sound like a forest?
