Virginia Liu, "Vanity", 2018, Ink on paper, 12 in x 15 in
In this piece, I wanted to touch on the validation that we now seek in society and the issues that come along with it. At first glance, many people often notice the pair of eyes and the girl; however, if you look closer, you will notice the hidden roses that represent her vanity, the sandwich that the girl gave up for her phone, and the teardrop shaped lines on the face. On the other hand, if the piece is viewed as a whole, I purposely had left the top left corner less cluttered to create a wave shape, representing the overwhelming factors of receive validation from those around you and online.
