UCLA Discovers Way to Isolate Specific T-Cells

A biotechnology advisor, Richard DiVenuto is a former partner at Concept Capital Markets, which has offices in Boston, Massachusetts, New York, Florida, and California. Also a former wealth director for a financial institution, Richard DiVenuto has an interest in stem cell therapy.

A cutting-edge type of treatment for genetic disorders and cancer, stem cell therapy has also shown promising results in animals with autoimmune disorders. Stem cell therapy can heal damaged tissues, regulate the immune system, and even block pathological responses.

In an exciting development in the field, scientists at the UCLA Broad Stem Cell Research Center recently discovered a way to isolate specific T-cells more efficiently, the immune cells necessary to fight infections, cancer, and autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis. The discovery will help medical researchers find new ways to use T-cells in therapeutic ways. The technique was reported in the study, “Droplet-based mRNA sequencing of fixed and permeabilized cells by CLInt-seq allows for antigen-specific TCR cloning,” published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
