A welcoming start.
SiO (Studentsamskipnaden i Oslo or The Foundation for Student Life in Oslo and Akershus) is a student welfare organisation for more than 67.000 students at 27 educational institutions in Oslo and Akershus. They work within the realms of student housing, healthcare, hospitality and fitness, to name a few.
Making Waves have over the last year been working on improving the user experience on one of SiO’s core offerings, and it quickly became apparent that there was a real need to transform the SiO brand into something more forward-leaning with a strong, digital focus and a clear voice. With a young audience fluent in technology and with high expectations in regards to digital services it was key to be able to communicate on the same level.
A clear goal for the project was to retain the existing identity and to amplify rather than completely renew. SiO is a recognisable brand in Oslo – in particular the S symbol – so we opted to keep this but also create a more responsive version allowing us to be legible on all surfaces. Instead we kept our focus on innovating and future proofing their typography, colour palette, illustration style and brand personality.
