GloWD - Sustainable Affordable Co-Housing Complex

In this project my focus was the food system but the whole group worked together did work that was related to another part of the project as well as give input to each other and help with the designing of all aspects.
I did my research on different plants, herbs and vegetables and looked at conditions they need to germinate and grow. I then did some research on types of growing systems to help direct my design. There is more pros in using a hydroponic growing system rather than the traditional soil system, therefore I decided to design using the hydroponic system.
I then came across this interesting way of using the sun light as a light in the house during the day this will help keep the electricity usage in the community low.
Once we had an idea of the direction we wanted to pursue we started sketching and coming up with different ideas for the sustainable housing direction.
When we were designing the Community, we all put our thoughts together and came up with the idea that in a community there is:

-Community Garden / Food Production
-Shared outdoor eating space
-Play area
-Music
-Arts
-Recreation

Once we knew what was in a community we sketched up different concepts of what we thought would work as a community.
We designed a Vegetable chair with planting beds to plant the vegetables and you can also use it for seating in the community, and we also designed smaller planting beds used for a herb garden around the community.

These planting bed make use of the wicking system pulling water from a reservoir underneath the planting beds so that it will be able to water itself for at least a week.
We placed our designed community in different areas of the world to demonstrate that it is needed and will work worldwide.
