Great Gatsby Book Covers

This project is about displaying the concepts of a book on the cover. I created three different types of book covers : typographical, artists choice, and physical. These book covers should be creative and well designed to make the readers want to read the book. Each book cover should be highly conceptual.
Typographical

My book cover for typography is based off of the concept of broken dreams and hope. In the book Gatsby builds a whole fantasy around a girl named Daisy who resembles what he wants most in life. I chose a beautiful and delicate typeface that resembles the fragile dreams and fantasies of Gatsby. I surrounded the text in a wilting, dying daisy flower. Showing that you can be engulfed by those dreams but it does not always work out for the better. The colors and style are based off of the art deco time; the gold and black.
Artist Choice

My artists choice revolves around all the 20’s and messages of the book. I wanted to incorporate a green background. In the book, Gatsby always sees a green light that he is reaching off too. This also symbolizes his dreams and not really being able to catch them. I wanted to include a 1920’s car that he was so famous for driving in the book. This car represents his wealth and identity cover. But ultimately the car is broken, causes death, and ultimately his undoing. To me it represents his fall. I chose to go with a simple block 20’s typeface to tie it all in together.
Physical

My final book cover made physically is based off of the concept of people altering their lives and changing who they really are. It is originally based off of the billboard of the old mans eyes in the book that seemed to be watching them always. I used a collage to show different aspects of people. I included women faces, mens faces, and ones from different time periods. Everyone in the book lied about what they wanted, their actions, and who they wanted to become. I decided to split the pictures because in the end everything breaks and falls apart. I used photographs from the 1920’s as well as modern pictures.
