Peace + Civility: The Problem of Light Pollution

Peace + Civility

When visiting the Nebraska Capitol Building I was greatly inspired by the mosaics and ornate ceiling decorations. They reminded me of the night sky that is filled with a mosaic of stars. Whenever you walk into an important building such as an old church or governmental building the ceilings are ornately decorated. Art is often derived from the natural world around us and I believe the ornate night sky was inspiration in why ancient civilizations began decorating the ceilings above them. The night sky is one of the many natural beauties that is quickly and silently being taken from us.

Even though this campaign was inspired by the Nebraska Capitol Building the photos are not limited to Nebraska because it is global issue that needs to be addressed throughout the world and incorporated in every city.

INSPIRATION + IDEATION
Posters

The text for the posters and social media posts were gathered from the book The End of Night by Paul Bogard and International Dark Sky Association
Mockup on the Nebraska Capitol Building
Mockup in an Urban Setting
Social Media

The social Media campaign was created to reflect the posters so the viewer could easily connect them to the same campaign.
Postcards

The postcards for this campaign have a slightly different style that is used to show off the pictures and emphasize the beauty of the night sky. The postcards would be associated with the International Dark Sky Association to spread awareness of the light pollution and the effect it is having on our night skies.
