CORE2291 Design Lab 1: Project 4 Photoshop Techniques
Project 4: Photoshop techniques required me to create a photo illustration using Adobe Photoshop for The Atlantic Monthly magazine. The photo illustration was created in Adobe Photoshop and the article was formatted in Adobe InDesign. This project allowed me to not only become more comfortable using layer masks and the quick mask feature, but it allowed me to experiment with effects and adjustment layers.
Visual Exploration
Process
Here are my "sketches" of my photo illustration. I gathered up all of my images and then Frankenstein-ed them together in Procreate to find a composition that worked well. The background color and texture, or lack-there-of, is subject to change.
Now it's time to move to Photoshop to create the final image. First, I use the Quick Selection Tool to get a loose selection of my object.
I then create a quick mask so that I may have more precision with my selection. I use the brush tool to smooth everything out and make sure I get all the little details.
Once a layer mask is applied, we have our object all cleaned up! This process is repeated for all of the images I will be using.
Here we have all of the pieces put together.
To create a background I picked suitable colors with a nice, cozy knit overlay.
Bam! Our final image on the background! Adjustments have been made to the individual objects using effects and adjustment layers to create a more cohesive overall image.
