CORE2291 Design Lab 1: Project 3 InDesign Techniques
Project 3: InDesign Techniques required me to practice using Adobe InDesign by creating a typography guidelines poster. All of the type was formatted in Adobe InDesign while the poster illustrations were created in Adobe Illustrator. This project allowed me to learn a lot more about the ins and outs of InDesign as well as gain a better understanding of how to use paragraph styles and properly format text boxes.
Visual Exploration
Process
I began searching for fonts that I believed fit with the mood my visual exploration garnered. Lost Type turned out to be a great resource for unique and fresh typefaces, including these two that I ended up using.
I took my new typefaces and implemented them in an InDesign document.
With my new typefaces in place, I noticed it was getting a little busy with solely serif fonts, so I decided to go into my paragraph style options and change all my subheadings to a suitable sans-serif font that would still allow for the proper hierarchy.
I then took my text and worked in Procreate to shift around the text and doodle filler illustrations to come up with the final design.
Here is the text once edited in InDesign to fit the design of the second sketch.
I move to Adobe Illustrator where I utilize guides to create my vector art.
Here we see all of my vector images organized on separate art boards for easy transfer onto InDesign. I included two sets of lineweights on two of the designs so that I have some versatility.
Everything is pieced together back in InDesign. Now it just needs some slight adjustments to allow for more breathing room in the piece. I will also be adding a border to help define the edges.
Final Poster Design
Voila: The final poster design!
