ADVE2291 Design Lab 1: Project 2 Illustrator Techniques
For this project I traced over the script for the Coca Cola logo and designed a pattern for it. I was familiar with the entire process of this, since I primarily only needed to use the pen tool and the gradient tool. I use these tools regularly so it wasn't too hard to follow along.
Illustrator Techniques:
First, I took the image into Illustrator and sampled all of the colors. I added them to my swatches panel to be used for later.
I then turned the image into a template and began tracing over it with the pen tool.
After tracing it, I filled it in with a solid white color and added the trademark text.
Finally, I added a red circle for the background and used a gradient for it.

Coca Cola Patterns
For this part of the project, my primary inspiration was Halloween and witchcraft. I ended up leaning more towards witchcraft, as I had the idea to put the Coca Cola logo on potion bottles.
I started on the bottle; so I just laid in some flat colors to begin with.
Then I added a gradient to the liquid and added the Coca Cola logo overtop of it.
After finishing up the bottle, I overlaid a variety of polygons to make a simple crystal shape.
Once the crystal was completed, I created a lavender sprig by overlaying the same leaf shape multiple times and recoloring them.
Finally, I went to work on the pumpkin. I layered the same oval to make the ridges on a pumpkin and adjusted the colors.
Lastly, I added gradients for some finishing touches an positioned them for a pattern.
I created the pattern and saved it to use as a swatch.
I placed the pattern over a blue background to make it more cohesive and made any final adjustments with the object placement and pattern size.
Final Art:
My final pattern designs turned out like this. I adjusted the second once by changing the placement of the lavender and changing the potion bottle to be the color of actual Coca Cola instead of a bright red. Overall, this was a very fun process, as I got to learn how to make working patterns in Illustrator and refresh myself on the program itself.
