The Heat was inspired by the dripping effect present in New York street tags. Experimenting with melting objects like candles and cheese produced somewhat similar effects. Both candles and melted tags are products of time standing still/memories and had a more meaningful connection than cheese to tags, so candlemaking became the design outcome that would allow users to create their own memories/moments in time and their own interpretation of the typeface.
This type was later used in the Museum of Sex rebrand as a part of the branding system.
