Jake Parsons and JUNCO Racing came to us to do a promotional photo session for Jake. 21 year old Jake had literally just come to the United States after racing for a few years in Japan and Australia.
The native Australian was making the jump to American open wheel racing at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway with the Indy Lights Series . This session was to introduce him to the market and the US racing community for both fans and other drivers. We really wanted to make a dramatic impact with these photos for potential sponsors and new fans.
Jake’s personal esthetic is all black or black and white for his off track wardrobe. His race car and fire suit reflect his personal style as well. The team garage was our studio for the day. The only issue we had was that we were shooting with all the native overhead lights on because the other team drivers and their mechanics were there working on all the other cars. This was not really a problem since we were going for some drama in these photos. I was using a single 5ft octabox with a standard grid just a few feet away at f18 to f22. This allowed us to make the garage go very dark and block out all that was going on around us.
